Are you believing any myths of why you don’t believe you need motivation? Find out in the next few minutes of reading this.
PS If you know you need motivation you still need to read this because it will help you get yourself even more motivated!
Myth #1 – Motivation Can’t Last
Well duh!!! Motivation is like taking a bath or eating. You have to keep doing it. It must be a habit that you do everyday.
So how do you stay motivated? I’m glad you asked.
Make it a part of your daily routine to set aside 5 minutes before you really get started with your day and make a list of goals you want to accomplish within that day. You will find that this will keep you focused and will also allow you to get more accomplished!
Myth#2 My Life is Too Tough
GET OVER YOURSELF! Think about John Walsh’s story that I shared in my last post. Here’s the link if you need a reminder: John Walsh is #2 in the Post . If what he experienced wasn’t tough I don’t know what is. Yet, he kept going, focused on others and has been able to help thousands of people along the way.
Here’s what you need to do:
If you are experiencing a day full of self-pity and thinking your life is just horrible. Get over it! Go read a newspaper, magazine, or book with inspiring stories of people who OVERCAME their situation. Keep those stories close by so when those days come around again you can go back and read them. Write down 10 things you are thankful for that day and put them somewhere you can see them all day. (What you are thankful for could be as “small” as a toothbrush)
Myth #3 I Don’t Know What Motivates Me
So go find out for crying out loud! Different things motivate different people. What is your WHY?
Your Action Step:
Make a list of your top motivators. (ex. family, dreams, lifestyle, success, money) Whatever they may be, write them down and put them somewhere you will be able to access easily. When your are having a down day and forget WHY you are really doing this, get your list out and remind yourself WHY you are doing what your doing!
Myth #4 I’m Well Educated. I Don’t Need “Motivation” to Excel
If you think this…. get off your high horse and remember why you are so educated.
Education gives you the “how to” and motivation gives you the “want to”.
Obviously you needed motivation in order to get the education you have. Motivation drives you to excel above and beyond what you have already been able to accomplish.
Here’s Your Assignment:
Make a list of 10 thing you’ve learned. Next to each one write how you can apply them each day to your business and life. At the bottom of the page write “I will Apply What I Learn.”
Myth #5 Believing in myself, is all the encouragement I need.
Here’s the fact: we all thrive on the feedback we get from others.
No one’s confidence is self-made. We became confident because of what we have been taught and applying those things in our life. Also by what we have been told about ourselves along the way. Someone who hears all positive will be more confident than someone who hears all negative. But we all become confident because of what we have done or been exposed to by others. (If all you have been around is negative, get out of that circle and get in touch with some positive successful people so you too can increase your confidence.)
Your Action Step:
Make a list of 3 people in your life you could ask to encourage you and keep you accountable to stay positive and to keep moving in the right direction.
Myth #6 I can use Motivation to get Others to Do What I Want
DO NOT USE MOTIVATION IMPROPERLY. Motivation is a tool and when it is used in the wrong way it becomes manipulation. Motivation keeps others interest at best. Manipulation puts you in the “spotlight” and doesn’t care about how it affects others. You are in the business of helping others get what they want and in return you will be blessed with the things you desire too!
Here’s Your Homework:
Write the answers to these two questions.
1) Can I think of a time I may have let motivation turn into manipulation?
2) How could I have avoided that?
There you go! That’s just the cold, hard facts!
Now Go MOTIVATE Yourself.
Reach for the Unreachable and make your dreams come true!
To Your Success,
Jessica Moffitt
